Book: The Radetzky March by Joseph Roth.
Radetzky March chronicles the decline and fall of the Austro–Hungarian Empire via the Trotta family. The book relates the stories of three generations of the family, professional soldiers and career bureaucrats of Austria-Hungary — from imperial zenith to First World War nadir. The title comes from the Strauss march, which appears throughout. It is Roth’s best-known work, and has been ranked as one of the 20 most important German novels.
