From Time to Time: Journeys in the Jewish Calendar, by Dalian Marx

The book's size alone is impressive, so you can place it perfectly on your club table as decoration. It's a book that you don't have to read in one go, but that you can take out again and again over a good coffee on the sofa. It accompanies you through every month of the Jewish year and contains anecdotes from a wide variety of areas. The book explores seasonal fruits as well as more recent Israeli tales and biblical stories. It also presents traditions and customs that are unknown (in this country), from which everyone can take away an enrichment of their everyday Jewish life - regardless of whether it is traditional or modern. The presentation of festivals and holidays is particularly beautiful. They are presented here less from a religious perspective and more from a traditional and cultural point of view. In between, well-known Jewish personalities also have their own say, describing their experiences of the festivals. The book is a great template for finding a few exciting topics of conversation for the next Shabbat dinner, or for immersing yourself in reading for an entire Shabbat.
