Dear Members and Guests of our community,
Since its founding days, the Migwan Liberal Jewish Community has provided a liberal progressive Jewish home for families, children and individuals. “Next Generation” stands as a slogan for the sustainable development of our community.
Migwan offers a wide variety of services for members, guests and interested parties. In egalitarian services, all liturgical functions are open to Jewish women and men. Cultural, social and educational events complement the offerings, often in cooperation with partner organizations. Meanwhile, the Migwan family now includes well over 100 adult members. An important goal of the small but growing congregation is to strengthen the Jewish identity, especially of the more than 40 children and teens of the member families, livingĀ in a non-Jewish society. The high percentage of our young people and the liberal-progressive religious education form, is one of the most important strengths of our community.
In 2024, we will be able to celebrate 20 years Migwan. With this milestone date in mind, we are taking the next important steps into our future. We want to use the anniversary year to strengthen our anchoring in society and politics. Already in the second half of 2023, we want to confirm this with an official application for “a small recognition” on the basis of the Basel-Stadt constitution.
Following our General Assembly, we will have the chance to have an exchange with Mustafa Atici National Councillor Basel-Stadt and President of the supporting association of the Alevi Community Regio Basel. The Alevi community already has more than 10 years of experience with the Small Recognition.
Thank you for your attention.
Peter Jossi
President Migwan
