WUPJ Crisis Fund for the Ukraine

Ukrainian Refugees: your help is needed please!
Migwan is working very closely with the IGB and now part of a joint taskforce to help Jewish refugees fleeing the Ukrainian crisis.
To date we have received up to 8 offers from Migwan members to support with housing, thank you so much.
We kindly ask for more help in the following areas:
1) Housing – accommodation for 1 or more for any duration possible.
2) Godparents – support of refugees especially in the first days, checking and if needed help along the way, accompanying to official places (moral support but also professional help e.g., from doctors, psychologists, lawyers)
3) Food – help with preparing food, serving (e.g., cooking from home and bringing it to refugees, or at a central venue (TBD) and serving it there)
4) Other – help with furnishing empty apartments, transport, IT, etc.
Please write an email to Chaim (chaim@migwan.ch) if you can help in any of the 4 categories and indicate which of the 4 you are kindly able to support with. Your help is much needed and greatly appreciated. This is a real Mitzvah so any help whatsoever will go a long way.

In view of the war in Ukraine, the progressive world umbrella organization WUPJ (www.wupj.org) set up a crisis fund with a worldwide appeal for donations to support the Jewish community in Ukraine. The PLJS (Platform of Liberal Jews of Switzerland) recommends this appeal to its members.

‘Ukraine Emergency Support’ is working with key global organizations such as the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and the World Zionist Organization (WZO) to ensure successful coordination and avoid duplication of efforts.

The three PLJS member communities GIL (Communauté Juive Libérale de Genève), Migwan (Liberale Jüdische Gemeinde Basel) and JLG (Jüdische Liberale Gemeinde Zürich) are also involved in a variety of ways in coordination with Jewish communities and other partner organizations. For example, guest accommodations are available from members of the Liberal Jewish Community of Basel, Migwan.

Our overall effort is to ensure the safety of the Ukrainian community, which is being supported with food, shelter, medical care and psychological support, while at the same time a refugee center has been established in Poland to house families who have fled Ukraine.

While we all continue to pray and work for peace, we also recognize the importance of supporting our communities.
